Opponent of W.Pa lawmaker charged with corruption kicked off fall ballotSo you've doubtless heard the tale of Rep. Marc Gergely, the Pittsburgh-area Democrat who's been hit with corruption charges for allegedly using his office to help a pal who ran a gambling ring. Well late last week, Gergely's only opponent, Fawn Walker Montgomery, a Democrat-turned-Republican, was bounced from the fall general election ballot by the state Commonwealth Court. So, as it turns out, the honorable gentleman from the Mon Valley may have lousy luck when it comes to the legal system, but in politics, he just scored something of a flush. According to The Courier, Walker Montgomery submitted 389 signatures, 89 more than she needed to get onto the ballot. Lawyers for both sides agreed that 77 were invalid.
