MADD to deliver petition to ‘fight affluenza’ at Ethan Couch’s court hearing Tuesday
Mothers Against Drunk Driving has gathered more than 40,000 signatures for an online petition to “fight affluenza,” which the organization plans to deliver Tuesday at a court hearing where a judge will consider transferring Ethan Couch’s case to adult court. MADD blew past its goal of 30,000 signatures within 24 hours of launching its campaign last week and now hopes to grab as many as 60,000 signatures by the time it gives the petition to prosecutors Tuesday. “Transferring Couch to adult court gives the criminal justice system the opportunity to hold him accountable,” MADD National President Colleen Sheehey-Church said in a statement Monday. “Couch is not a child,” she said. “His actions are not that of a child, and everything possible must be done to hold him accountable and to ensure that Couch has no more victims.” Read more: crimeblog.dallasnews.com/2016/01/madd-to-deliver-petition-to-fight-affluenza-at-ethan-couchs-court-hearing-tuesday.html/
