Senate measure filed to fund unpaid utility services for state buildings in SpringfieldLegislation has been introduced in the Illinois Senate calling for the authorization of funding for approximately $10 million in unpaid utility services for state offices in Springfield. Senate Bill 2230, which was filed last week by Sen. Andy Manar, D-Bunker Hill, would allow for the use of the state’s general funds and additional sources from the previous fiscal year to cover unpaid utility bills so long as they are not covered in the budget for the current fiscal year. The state has been without a budget for the current fiscal year that began July 1. Unpaid utilities are one of any number of fiscal challenges resulting from the budget impasse, according to Manar.
