A nonprofit that oversees more than a dozen homeless shelters and contracts with the city of Seattle has closed its indoor spaces due to cited financial problems. SHARE, the Seattle Housing and Resource Effort says it is no longer able to afford providing services at some 15 shelters, forcing the organization to close those spaces indefinitely, beginning Thursday. The closures, which are estimated to displace more than 250 people, are part of an attempt by the nonprofit to convince King County officials to help with its reported debt, which SHARE representatives say totals about $70,000. “We took a vote, before SHARE collapsed in on itself, to have the shelters not reopen and basically apply a little bit of pressure to reconsider where they stand on funding us,” SHARE representative Andrew Constantino said.
