Oklahoma veterans home residents overcharged for years due to bureaucratic blunder, investigation findsOKLAHOMA CITY — A bureaucratic blunder has resulted in dozens — and perhaps even hundreds — of Oklahoma veterans home residents being overcharged for their residential care for years, an inquiry by The Oklahoman has revealed. The overcharges will affect only a small percentage of the state’s 1,423 veterans home residents, but for some, the overcharges could amount to more than $1,000 a month. That could add up to tens of thousands of dollars for some residents who have spent years in the veterans centers. The Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs is working to develop correct billings beginning July 1, said S. Douglas Elliott, who became deputy director of the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs last summer. However, getting reimbursed for past overcharges could prove difficult. www.tulsaworld.com/news/health/oklahoma-veterans-home-residents-overcharged-for-years-due-to-bureaucratic/article_279703fc-d16d-5c08-b3ef-f60a86a932da.html
