Virginia Beach council signals it wants to move forward with light railThe majority of the City Council signaled it is committed to moving forward with a light rail extension from Norfolk to Virginia Beach. The council voted 9-2 tonight to sign two agreements with the state. Councilmen John Moss and Bobby Dyer voted no. The first agreement, a non-binding memorandum of understanding, keeps the project on track without delays. The second agreement starts the process of buying three rail cars for $19.77 million. The deal allows the city to delay the final order of the rail cars until after it finds out the results of a potential voter referendum on light rail in November.
