The Franklin County Democratic Party’s new chairman said he plans to unite a party that dealt with fractures and conflicts in the past year and is preparing for the general election in November. Party members elected Mike Sexton, an assistant director in the Columbus Department of Public Service, as chairman of its executive committee at party headquarters Wednesday night. “I’m at my best when I work and I can bring people together and work with others to solve problems,” Sexton said. “We all agree that while the challenges ahead are big, we can win if we can unite.” He is taking over a party that just endured a failed takeover bid by several splinter groups whose members ran for seats on the Democratic central committee. Some won seats, but the groups did not gain enough to influence party votes.
