MONTGOMERY — The north Alabama lawmaker leading the effort to impeach Gov. Robert Bentley filed a new impeachment resolution Thursday with the signatures of 23 House members.
That’s enough to begin an investigatory process, but it’s not likely to be a quick one.
Rep. Ed Henry, R-Hartselle, more than three weeks ago filed a resolution to begin the impeachment process against Bentley, but the procedure hasn’t been used in about a century and lawmakers realized the rules are unclear.
New rules adopted this week require 21 signatures to assemble the House Judiciary Committee to investigate calls for impeachment.
