Diana Rauner: Education starts 'at birth or even before birth'Increasing access to early childhood education — including programs that start well before typical preschool ages — brought a pair of Republican leaders to schools in Waukegan and North Chicago Wednesday. U.S. Rep. Robert Dold, R-10th, said lawmakers are expected to focus on programs for poverty in the coming year, and sees expanded access to early childhood education as one way to accomplish that. "How do we make sure we're preparing our young people for any path they want to take?" said Dold, who is running for reelection against the winner of the Democratic primary contest between former Rep. Brad Schneider and Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering. Dold and Illinois first lady Diana Rauner, president of the Ounce of Prevention Fund, which helps children from low-income families and advocates for early childhood education, visited two preschools affiliated with Ounce of Prevention.
