Woman pleads guilty to embezzling over $78K from church, restaurantLAS CRUCES - A 34-year-old Las Cruces woman pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $78,000 from St. Genevieve Church and Nopalito’s Restaurant on Thursday in 3rd Judicial District Court. Monica Dallago, of the 800 block of Chaparro Street, accepted a plea agreement in which she pleaded guilty to two counts of embezzlement and 17 counts of forgery. Prosecutors, in return, dismissed an additional 40 counts. In accepting the plea agreement, Dallago, who worked for a private CPA firm that was contracted to do bookkeeping for the church and the restaurant, admitted that she forged checks from the two accounts over a two-year period. She embezzled $64,855.82 from St. Genevieve Church and $13,400 from Nopalito’s Restaurant, according to prosecutor Daniel Sewell of the 3rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
