House Republicans on Friday issued a warning to Gov. Mark Dayton and DFL leaders, saying that any transportation offer to fix Minnesota's roads and bridges should not include a gas tax.
House Speaker Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, stood with more than 40 members of his caucus during a news conference where he issued his edict. It comes as the Dayton administration prepares a proposal for transportation over the weekend to be unveiled Monday.
"As Governor Dayton drafts his counter offer this weekend, I strongly urge him to remember his own words from December that a gas tax increase is dead," Daudt said.
House Republicans this week unveiled their counter-proposal on transportation, one that draws from the state's general fund to pay for improvements to the state's transportation infrastructure.
