A Simpsonville man who worked as an assistant manager at Bed Bath & Beyond is accused of defrauding the retailer of nearly $82,000, federal prosecutors said this week. Kelvin Abney, 49, was charged with two counts of mail fraud in Greenville federal court, according to court documents. An indictment alleges Abney purchased used or broken items from various places and exchanged them for new items, such as a Roomba vacuum cleaner, at Bed Bath & Beyond stores in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia. The indictment alleges that contrary to company policy, Abney didn't identify himself as a Bed Bath & Beyond employee when making the returns.
