McAuliffe signs new order restoring voting rights for 1,200 more felonsRoughly 1,200 more felons can now register to vote in Virginia after Gov. Terry McAuliffe signed the first monthly renewal of his sweeping order that already restored the rights of 206,000 ex-offenders. McAuliffe signed a new order Tuesday restoring the civil rights of all felons who had completed their sentences and finished supervised release between April 22, the date of his original order, and the end of April. McAuliffe's executive action did not create an automatic restoration process. The governor has said he'll sign monthly orders restoring rights to felons not covered by his original order. According to the secretary of the commonwealth's office, the McAuliffe administration intends to sign another order in mid-June covering the entire month of May.
