Christopher Salis attended Purdue University with Edward and Douglas Miller, two brothers who own a car wash in Lake County. Salis was best man at Douglas Miller's wedding and a groomsman at his brother's wedding. Their mother referred to Salis as a son. Years after graduating and celebrating weddings, though, the Millers fell on hard times. The bills at their car wash, in St. John's, mounted, and they prayed they would make it through winter without burning through their reserves, according to messages detailed in court documents. In 2014, they thought they found a "possible savior," court documents say. Salis, 39, tipped off the Miller brothers about a potential merger between Concur Technologies and SAP America Inc., where he was an executive, a complaint from the Securities and Exchange Commission alleges.
