Reimbursement was the deal breaker prompting UNM Hospitals and UnitedHealthcare to terminate their Centennial Care provider agreements. How far apart they were in terms of dollars, neither side would say on Tuesday. UnitedHealthcare and UNM warned patients about the potential change this spring because of disagreements over compensation and other issues. The contract between the two organizations will expire at the end of this month, according to UNM. That means UNM Hospitals will be out-of-network for UnitedHealthcare Centennial Care members. Centennial Care is the name of the New Mexico Medicaid program, which is provided by four managed care organizations in the state.
